Kumar Kushagra made his List A debut on 20 February 2021 for Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Prior to his debut, he was named in India’s squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He made his T20 debut on 4 November 2021 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and his first-class debut on 24 February 2022 in the Ranji Trophy.
That first-class debut is what put him on the national map. He made headlines by scoring 266 runs off 269 balls for Jharkhand against Nagaland in the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy pre-quarterfinal, becoming the youngest player to achieve a first-class double hundred on debut.
